The wiki is intended to help answer these questions, and to make it easier to choose sustainable options.
⚡️ What cool stuff could I build that will be helpful / less harmful? How can I use my passion to help solve big problems (even in little chunks)?
→ **Project ideas for every interest!**
⚡️ Why am I designing a new thing, anyway?
⚡️ What sustainable materials, processes, power sources, and so forth can I use in my project?
→ Get thee to the Building Hardware section!
⚡️ If I have a hardware business, how can I run that sustainably – from the website to the packaging and shipping?
→ See the Business section!
⚡️ In general, how can we employ Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle (and even Rot!) to reduce waste and environmental damage?
→ These are the questions the whole catalogue covers, for electronics and beyond. :)
⚡️ The big one: What impact can we, as individuals, actually have?
Well… The climate situation isn't necessarily "our" fault – but fixing it is our responsibility. (Or rather, it's a POWER we have!)
Most of us don't have a huuuuge impact on how we got here, as various studies have found...
In fact, the "carbon footprint" was popularized by BP – British Petroleum – as a way of shifting responsibility for this stuff onto the individual.
However, electronics manufacturing has an outsized effect on global health.
We have an incredible pool of genius that we can apply to help solve this problem!
