Ways to make wearing a mask more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing!

In my career, I attend a fair number of events and meetups – usually wandering around in a crowd, gathering photos and video for social media and long-form coverage. These tools are lightweight and add personality to my outfits, which lean toward a polished cyberpunk aesthetic.

Mask charms (free 3D models)

Magnetic charms that upgrade your disposable masks. Secured by one medium-sized disc magnet on the inside of the mask, and a smaller one attached to the back of the charm.

Hex Nut • Magnetic Mask Charms

I suggest printing the model in black; that way, if you apply a metallic finish, it’ll look vaguely realistic.

Finishing the charms:

I’ve worn these at many events over the past few years (as of 2025). The one time I’ve had a slight issue was at Teardown ‘25, when I wore them for 6-8 hours, 4-5 days in a row. I experienced a slightly red/rough patch on one cheek. To prevent this, I recommend applying a protective coating to the inner magnet.

Alex looks sidelong at the camera, wearing a black mask which sports four magnetic charms. They look like grimy silver-colored hex nuts secured around the ends of bolts.
